CMF completes funding of 50 Cochlear Implant surgeries

CMF is delighted to announce the completion of an important milestone in our efforts to bring high quality, life changing medical treatment to children from low-income families. In January 2022, CMF completed Cochlear Implant surgical treatment for fifty children with early onset severe hearing disability, at a cost of approximately Rs. 3.5 Cr.

In India, Four in every thousand children suffer from severe to profound hearing loss. With over 100,000 babies that are born with hearing deficiency every year. Without hearing, a child cannot develop speech and language, leading to severe mental disability.

For suitable patients, a Cochlear Implant is a life-transforming procedure. Probably one of the best inventions in the recent history of medical science,  it is the first device that can restore one of the five senses. However, at a cost ranging from Rs. 8 – 12 lakhs, such treatment is out of reach for low-income families.

Through our Deafness program, Chiranjiv Medical Foundation evaluates children with severe hearing disability and identifies those that will benefit from Cochlear Implant surgery. After a thorough clinical and social evaluation, CMF provides funding for the surgery as well as post-surgical auditory rehabilitation for one year.

We are profoundly grateful to our corporate donors: HCL Corporation, ConCor Corporation, and Sterling Tools Limited, for their continuous support for this program.
